Humantay Lake is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Cusco, Peru. Formed by the melting glaciers of the Humantay Mountain, this turquoise lagoon sits at 4,200 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Andes. The lake is also considered sacred in Andean culture, where locals and shamans perform offerings to Pachamama (Mother Earth). According to tradition, the Humantay Mountain is the youngest son of the Apu Salkantay and guardian of the waters that sustain nearby communities.

Day 1 Full Day: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Cusco

Your Humantay Lake adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco between 4:00 and 4:30 AM. You will travel through the Limatambo Valley, passing traditional Andean villages until reaching Mollepata, where you will enjoy a buffet breakfast. After breakfast, continue driving for about 1 hour to Soraypampa (3,900 m), the starting point of the hike. From here, begin a 1.5 to 2-hour uphill hike toward Humantay Lake. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular mountain scenery, high-Andean flora, and views of the impressive Humantay glacier. Upon arrival at the lake (4,200 m), you will have free time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the peaceful environment. This sacred place is often used for Andean rituals and offerings to Pachamama. Afterward, descend back to Soraypampa and return by transportation to Mollepata for a buffet lunch. Finally, return to Cusco, arriving around 6:00 PM.
