Itinerary

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Llactapata – Ayapata

Your private Inca Trail to Machu Picchu begins the night before with a personalized briefing at your hotel, where your trekking guide will explain the route and answer any questions. Early the next morning, you will be picked up with private transportation and driven through the beautiful Andean landscape to Km 82, the official starting point of the Inca Trail. After breakfast at the trailhead, begin hiking along a relatively gentle section of the trail until reaching Llactapata, your first important Inca archaeological site. Here you will learn about the history of the Incas and the importance of this legendary trekking route. After lunch and a short rest, continue hiking through scenic mountain landscapes until arriving at your first campsite in Ayapata. This day is the perfect introduction to one of the most iconic private trekking tours in Peru.

Day 2 Day 2: Ayapata – Dead Woman’s Pass – Pacaymayo – Chaquicocha

After an early wake-up with hot coca tea and a nutritious breakfast, begin your most challenging day on the Inca Trail Private 4 Days. You will hike uphill for approximately four hours to reach Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point of the trail at 4,215 m / 13,829 ft. Along the way, you will cross different microclimates and enjoy breathtaking mountain views. Once at the summit, take time to rest, celebrate the achievement, and admire the Andean scenery before descending on original Inca steps toward the Pacaymayo Valley for lunch. In the afternoon, continue hiking for several more hours toward Chaquicocha, visiting the impressive Inca sites of Runkuraccay and Sayacmarca along the way. This is one of the most scenic and rewarding days of the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Day 3 Day 3: Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna

Wake up once again with a hot cup of tea and enjoy breakfast before continuing your private Machu Picchu hiking adventure. Today you will hike toward the final pass of Phuyupatamarca, a spectacular point with panoramic views of the Vilcabamba mountain range and Salkantay Mountain. Along the route, you will visit Phuyupatamarca, known as the “Town above the Clouds,” and Intipata, also called the “Terraces of the Sun.” This section of the trail is especially beautiful thanks to its cloud forest scenery, diverse flora, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. After lunch, take a short walk to Wiñay Wayna, one of the most stunning and important archaeological sites on the Inca Trail. In the evening, return to camp for your final happy hour, dinner, and a farewell moment with your porter team.

Day 4 Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

Today is the most important day of your journey: your long-awaited arrival at Machu Picchu. You will wake up very early at the Wiñay Wayna campsite and begin the final section of the Inca Trail after breakfast. From the checkpoint, hike for about one hour to the Sun Gate, where you will enjoy your first unforgettable panoramic view of Machu Picchu. This is one of the most magical moments of the entire private trekking tour. From Inti Punku, continue descending toward the citadel while admiring spectacular views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, the Urubamba River, and the surrounding valleys. Once at the main viewpoint, you will have time to take the iconic postcard photos before starting a guided tour of the most important temples, ceremonial spaces, fountains, and archaeological sectors of Machu Picchu. After the visit, descend to Aguas Calientes, enjoy lunch on your own, and take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where private transportation will be waiting to return you to your hotel in Cusco.
